NCTA Pioneers Win 2017 Basketball Championship.
“Our theme for our team is ‘brothers.’ That means when someone falls, another brother is there to pick him up,” Coach James Southerland said, describing their obstacle-filled season.
To win this year’s TAPPS 1A State Championship, the Pioneers fought back from multiple injuries to starting players. They also encountered tough challenges from up-and-coming teams across Texas. But they pulled together as a unit and beat San Antonio Legacy Christian 91-60 in the final game.
“When things got tough, we had to stick together as a team.” —Luis Rivas, Senior
Starting guard Luis Rivas shared, “When things got tough this year, we had to stick together as a team and not fold under pressure. It’s pretty cool to say that I won state all four years of high school … something very few people are ever a part of.”
Here at Happy Hill Farm, we couldn’t be more proud of these young men … the consistent effort they gave in the classroom and on the court … the strong character they developed and showed. And it’s all thanks to donors like you, who make it possible for kids to reach their God-given potential.
Next year promises to be just as successful, with returning starters like Marc Langston. He promised, “Coming back as a senior with other returners, we are going to have to continue to work hard and focus even more if we want to see the same success again.”
Will you continue to support NCTA Pioneer Basketball? These amazing young men are counting on you!
