Past

More than 32 years ago, Gloria and Ed Shipman and their two teenage sons, Chuck and Todd, took some runaway girls into their home, setting in motion what has developed into one of the country's finest residential schools for at-risk children. Happy Hill Farm's program is interdenominational, undergirded by strong moral and spiritual principles.

A 266-acre farm, which the Shipman family had begun as a land development, was donated by the Shipman's to the non-profit corporation initially. An additional 250 acres was added a few years later, bringing the current campus to more than 500 acres.

The Academy was opened officially in 1975 with a handful of students, little money, and big dreams of building a safe haven for troubled, hurting children.

Organizations and individuals, who study and research child-care facilities throughout the world, confirm what Happy Hill Farm's founders know to be true: Happy Hill Farm's "formula" works for turning children's lives around.

That "formula," that dream, has been shared for over 32 years by countless people. And the dream is still unfolding.
