Happy Hill Farm students receive college scholarships from the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Located just south of Granbury, Texas, on State Highway 144, Happy Hill Farm is a working 500-acre farm. Livestock include horses, cattle, sheep, goats, donkeys, chickens, pigs, and a host of pets. The Farm provides much of the food needed by the children and staff, plus a wholesome, healthy, rural lifestyle. Positive work habits and attitudes are taught, as well as work skills. The working farm offers a variety of vocational training areas, primarily through an extensive 4-H program. Children -- depending on their age, interests, and aptitude -- care for the many animals that are exhibited and/or consumed for food. The goal is not only to provide the children with a high-quality education, but also to equip them for a role in the vocational community, should they so desire.
Approximately 50 students, 12 years of age and above, participate in the 4-H program. Animals are shown in the county, the Fort Worth Stock Show, the State Fair, the San Antonio Livestock Exposition, and the Houston Livestock Show. A number of the Farm's graduates are attending college on agriculture scholarships earned as 4-H students. |
